How to Have It All

The idea of ‘Having it All’ – the career, the happy home life, the healthy social life, and more, is not new. Men and women alike have been subjected to it for ages. But, is it really possible? Can you really have it all?

The not-so-simple answer is YES. Of course, you can have it all. Read on to find out how.

Have It All by Defining What “Success” Means to You

The key to ‘having it all’ is defining what that phrase means to you. How do you measure success?

Your own opinion and your own happiness are what matters most. It may not be easy, but letting go of the pressures of society is one way for you to have it all.

If to you, success means happiness and contentment, then having it all is easy. You can ‘have it all’ right now. Right at this very moment!

You can have it all by choosing happiness. Choose to be happy in whatever you do and whatever you have. Never forget – happiness is a choice and not a product of anything else.

Get Your Priorities Straight

Take some time to find out what is important to you and stick with those. Choose where to invest your energy.

Of course, this may vary depending on the time your life and on your current situation.

As a single person, work may be your priority. If you are married with kids or if you have an ailing family member that needs taking care of you, then perhaps your priority will be family.

American international lawyer Ann-Marie Slaughter said,

“We need to value family as much as work. The two reinforce each other. If family comes first, work does not come second, life comes together.”

Do not be afraid to prioritize. And make choosing your priorities about you. It can’t be about anyone else. More importantly, it cannot be influenced by another’s opinion.

Make Good Choices

Pave your road to ‘having it all well’. Create a good solid foundation. Find a job that suits you – one that you love. Doing so can help you avoid the dreaded “Burnout”. If you feel like you need more flexibility, consider starting your own business.

Making good choices also applies to other areas of your life, including your romantic life. Find a partner who supports you and who understands your goals in life. Find someone who shares your values and beliefs.

Make healthy choices too. Eat well and get enough sleep. Your body will thank you for it.

Make time for rest and relaxation. A period of hard work should be followed by time to relax and recharge.

Ask and Accept Help

Do not be afraid to ask for help. You’ll be surprised at how much help you’ll receive just by asking for it.

Hire help, if you can. Get a nanny for your kids. Hire a biweekly cleaning service for your home.

Also, if help is offered to you, take it. Be grateful for it, but don’t turn it down, especially when you know you really need it. And more importantly, do not allow yourself or anyone else to make you feel guilty for asking for help.

If You Stumble, Get Back Up

Life is unpredictable. No matter how prepared you think you are life can still surprise you. Roadblocks may try to disillusion you or bring you low, but don’t let them.

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” – John Lennon

If a family member falls ill unexpectedly and you have to take care of them, go ahead. Focus on that. Let the rest take care of itself.

You will be surprised by how much support you’ll get, during the hard times, especially if you have made good decisions in the past.

If you are worried about your other priorities, work for example, stop. Work will still be there when you get back on your feet, if by some chance it no longer is, don’t wallow in the loss for far too long. Move on. There will be other opportunities.

Get back up. It will be alright. Everything will be okay in the end.

Lastly…

Don’t be so hard yourself

Some days will be harder than others. Not every day is going to be perfectly balanced and you know what? That’s fine!

Former corporate exec turned spirit & soul entrepreneur Lizzie Alberga says,

“…breathe and trust in yourself and the universe that when you do your best — truly your best with good intention — the rest will fall into place.”

Trust in the universe. Trust that as long as you have done your very best, the rest will fall into place.
